PREP & CARE
Each Eyelash Extension remains in place until the natural lash on which it rests falls out. This can be as long as two months:- Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in cycles (every 60 to 90 days). When a natural lash matures and falls out, a new lash has already been growing and quickly replaces it without us noticing the turnover. This process is constant and at any given moment our many natural lashes are at different stages of maturity. Some are just growing in, while others are ready to shed. People typically shed between 1 and 5 natural lashes each day, depending on their individual growth cycles. On shorter natural lashes, this growing and shedding cycle is virtually unnoticeable.
- When eyelashes are extended Eyelash Extensions, it will be more noticeable when these lashes shed because they are longer and darker than natural lashes. This is a perfectly normal occurrence, with or without extensions. I will apply Eyelash Extensions primarily to those lashes that are in the middle of their maturation cycle to maximum the amount of time they will last, without jeopardizing the health of "baby" lashes. The Lash Extension will fall out with the natural lash to which it is attached when it reaches the end of its growth cycle. A few Eyelash Extensions may shed within the first week because the attached natural lashes are at the end of their growth cycle. Most will remain in place for up to two months.
- With proper care and maintenance, touch-ups are typically only needed once every 3-4 weeks to replace the lashes that have shed. I will add extensions to the newest mature natural lashes to maintain a full, lush appearance.
Before Your Appointment
**Please print the following form, complete and bring with you to your eyelash appointment: Eyelash Extension Consent Form
Preparing for your Lash Appointment:
- To maximize your time with your lash stylist, remove all makeup in your eye area, including foundation, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara, eye creams, and eye serums.
- Clean your lashes gently but thoroughly to remove any residual oils or mascara.
- Shower and wash your hair.
- If you are a contact lens wearer, wear your glasses to your appointment.
- Do not curl your lashes the day of your appointment.
- Do not apply heavy creams, lotions, or oils to your face in the 24 hours before your appointment.
- Do not tint or perm your lashes in the 24 hours before your appointment.
- Talk to your lash stylist if you have recently received any irritating cosmetic treatments (such as skin resurfacing procedures, chemical peels, eyebrow waxing, laser treatments, permanent makeup application, etc.) in your eye area.
- Consult your doctor before your appointment if you are pregnant, are taking medication, suffer from any medical conditions or allergies, or are recovering from any medical procedure.
After Your Appointment
Research has shown that cyanoacrylate-based adhesives (the base for all eyelash extension adhesives) require a full 24 hours to cure completely.
You will receive the optimal performance of your lash application, meaning longer-lasting lashes--and the lowest possibility of irritation--if your lashes do not contact moisture during the 24 hour cure time. You'll also be protecting your valuable investment!
In the 24 Hours After Your Appointment:
- Avoid exposing your lashes to water, heat, saunas, steam, and friction.
- Do not apply any eye cosmetics or skin care products to your lashes or eye area.
- Do not shower if at all possible. If you must shower, limit your time and water temperature.
- Do not get your lashes wet if you shower. You must avoid steam and water in the first 24 hours to ensure a strong bond and prevent eye irritation.
- Sleep on your back to avoid friction and tangling.
- Do not tint or perm your lashes.
- Avoid receiving irritating treatments, including brow waxing, in your eye area.
Here's a few tips to assist you in surviving the first 24 hours:
- 24 hours without getting your lashes wet does NOT mean you cannot cleanse yourself.
- A lukewarm (not steaming) bath in the tub is the most ideal body cleansing method during the first 24 hours.
- Using a lint-free cloth or facial tissue and an oil-free cleanser, you can gently cleanse your face, avoiding the lash line area. The cloth should be slightly damp but not wet, to avoid any chance of dripping from the forehead into the eye area. Dry your face by patting gently with a lint-free cloth, while carefully avoiding any contact with your lashes.
- Although bathing is recommending over showering, if you must shower, keep these key points in mind:
- Your face should not come into contact with running or splashing water. Keep your head away from the faucet stream.
- Keep the water temperature at lukewarm to prevent steam and reduce condensation.
- Keep your shower quick--in and out!
- Hold off on washing your hair if possible. (Hairstylists recommend going two to three days between shampoos for hair health, anyways). If you must wash your hair, be extremely careful and lean back in the shower, lowering the water pressure to reduce splashing. A plastic visor may also help reduce the possibility of water splashing on your lashes.
Follow these simple tips, and you'll be well on your way to surviving the dreaded "first 24 hours" with style!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What are Eyelash Extensions?
Extensions lengthen and thicken your eyelashes. Single strands of lightweight synthetic eyelashes that look identical to a natural lash are applied one lash at a time to your own lashes, for a soft, natural, elegant thick-lashed look. Extensions look and feel completely real, and are perfect for special occasions as well as everyday wear.
Are Eyelash Extensions safe?
Yes, absolutely. Eyelash extensions are completely safe and painless. There is no waxing or tweezing involved. We use a medical grade, fume-free, formaldehyde-free eyelash extend adhesive and eyelash extend adhesive remover.
